Californian Bungalow
Fashion designer turned interior designer, Lara Ivachev, and her husband purchased their beloved home in 2021 when they unexpectedly decided to relocate from Melbourne to Hobart. The gorgeous 1935 double brick home sits proudly on a hill in the centre of North Hobart.
It is a classic Californian bungalow with a deep front porch and distinctive character features. Restoration and renovation of the house began in February this year and the interior was just recently completed. The house had been largely untouched for the past 50 years, so it required extensive internal work.
“I was so happy when I discovered TradCo had all the traditional hardware, which matched the existing hardware of the house perfectly.”
After spending the last 10 years as a fashion designer, Lara was inspired to change her creative focus to interior design after completing this home project and enjoying the process. With her design background and flair, creating a space that truly brought joy came naturally. Lara based the design on her personal interests while honouring the home’s Scottish heritage. The goal was to restore the house to its former glory and highlight its original features.
In the renovation, Lara selected TradCo hardware in Antique Copper and Polished Brass to match the existing fixtures. TradCo’s Edwardian Door Knobs were selected for the doors and to maintain consistency, all light switches were replaced with Traditional Toggle Switches. The home’s historical charm and design were enhanced by incorporating TradCo’s Deco Cabinet Pull Handles, Flat Cupboard Knobs, Shelf Brackets, Window Pulls, Coat Hooks and Door Stops.
